How do I get pain relief from a bad outbreak of herpes?

Posted By on November 22, 2011

I have had genital herpes for 20 years. The very first outbreak was bad, but then it got to the point I rarely ever had one. I recently had a major surgery and after they removed the catheter, I have this huge blown outbreak of herpes and it’s killing with the pain and swelling. I need relief. Help!!

Chosen Answer:

Dr can give you topical Zovirax

If you don’t want a prescription, get Abreva at the store…it’s for mouth cold-sores, but the virus is identical and it does work.
I also find salt baths are helpful for healing of the sores

Consult your local Genito-Urinary Clinic. They can prescribe something for you.

Bless your heart! You should go to the doctor. I couldn’t imagine what your going through.. I dont think anything over the counter would help you.

You need to go back or phone your nearest genito urinary clinic. There are meds available to help you get through this outbreak and reduce chances of any further outbreaks.

i don’t have suggestions for that but i do have one suggestion, don’t put your picture around a sentence that contains the word “herpes” come on honestly.

So, u have had it for 20 years..you should not be the one asking for advice..but the one giving it! Ask you doctor would be the smartest thing to do..Don’t u think?!

Call your doctor and they will probably prescribe Valtrex. I know how painful this is. If you want something over the counter, I would suggest Advil as it will help with the pain and swelling. But, I think your best bet is to get something prescribed.
