Im 17 weeks pregnant and starting to think about the birth, the idea of a water birth sounds great but can you use any other sort of pain relief along side if you need it? Id love to hear any experiences of water births.

Chosen Answer:

I am 37 weeks pregnant tomorrow and I am up for a water birth too! At my hospital, you can only have gas and air in the birthing pool! I suppose its because other methods of pain relief tend to make you a bit drowsy, so there would be drowning issues! Hee Hee! But also remember if you are in the birth pool and arent coping too well with the pain you can always come out and get some alternative pain relief!

Chosen Answer:

This is from http://pdrhealth.com

Special information if you are pregnant or breastfeeding

There have been reports of serious harm to developing babies when Ultram was used during pregnancy. If you are pregnant or plan to become pregnant, tell your doctor immediately.

Ultram appears in breast milk and may affect a nursing infant. If this medication is essential to your health, your doctor may advise you to discontinue breastfeeding until your treatment is finished

Ive given my dog an urinary pain relief medication I have and her urine is bright yellow (kinda like a highlighter) and she did it on my white carpet!! Ive tried bleach, rubbing alcohol, H202….HELP!!
The drug is called phenazopyridine Hydrochloride

Chosen Answer:

What’s the NAME of the medication you gave her???

Medications are chemicals. If you clean one chemical with another (even ‘natural’ ones), you can have an undesirable reaction. Do not use anything until you’re sure that won’t happen.

ETA: If you gave your dog one of your OWN human medications (which you did), your biggest concern right now is not the yellow stain on your carpet….it’s the potential adverse effects of YOUR medication (at God only knows what dose you gave) on your dog. I’d say that if you permanently stained your carpet, you got what you deserved. (Not to mention the fact that your dog’s original problem STILL needs to be appropriately treated. Urinary pain usually indicates a UTI, crystals, or stones in dogs.)

ETA again: I apologize…in my total disgust for your concern over your carpet, I realize that I probably failed to emphasize that depending upon your dog’s weight and the dosage you gave her, you might have just lethally poisoned her. That drug is known to cause several toxic reactions in dogs, including (but not limited to) methemoglobinemia, Heinz body anemia, renal failure, and liver failure. Please call your closest veterinary emergency clinic before it gets to that point. Tell them your dog’s weight, the dosage given, and the exact time(s) given. If caught early enough, treatment can be successful. Your carpet can wait (it will have to have that square replaced)….but your dog can’t.

ETA#3: Do people not read??? This is not a URINE-stained carpet, it is now a DYE-stained carpet, from a chemical in the drug that was given to the dog and then passed through her urine and into the carpet. On almost all fabrics, it is permanent. Pharmacists issue written warnings when filling this prescription that that’s the case, even though humans don’t generally go around urinating on the carpet. It’s a human drug (the owner’s own prescription) that was never intended to be given to a dog, who urinated on the carpet because she (probably) has an undiagnosed and untreated urinary tract infection. That’s now the least of her problems, however. This dog could DIE as a result of having been given this human medication, which was not able to have benefited her in any way in the first place.

I got it prescribed to me for my neck pain but I have no clue to what this medication has in store for me. Is it the same as vicodin and percocet? Oh, and how do I make it to were I don’t get an upset stomache? I get that like everytime even when I eat. Should I just eat a whole buffet to not make my stomache hurt? Thanks for any help!

Chosen Answer:

Tramadol is stronger than Vicodin and Percocet. And oral Tramadol WILL cause a stomach upset. U can ask to take it intramuscularly. Or if ur pain isn’t so severe, u can take vicodin.

my doc has changed me to the er version for chronic headaches?

Chosen Answer:

ER means etended release, enabling the medication to be dposited into your system over a period of time, where as the other is immediate release where you would get the medication all at once. The benefits of ER is that they usually last from 8 to 12 hours, offering much longer periods of pain relief, and having to take less medication to do so.

Has anyone tried these? Apparently they inject sterile water in 4 different places in your back and it helps relieve labor pain. It is all natural and apparently an alternative to an epidural (which I know I don’t want). Anyone have any information on this form of pain relief? Any other pain relief measures you can recommend?

Chosen Answer:

I asked my doula about this, I found info on it after having back labor with my son. She doesn’t know of anyone in our metro area that does it, it has to be done by a doctor or midwife. The labor nurses aren’t trained in it and doctors/midwives don’t typically stick around during labor. If you had a home birth I think this might be an option assuming your midwife has been trained to do it.

Chosen Answer:

Take Ultram exactly as it was prescribed for you. Do not take it in larger doses or for longer than recommended by your doctor. Do not take more than 300 milligrams of Ultram in one day.

So, in other words you can take up to 6 of your 50 mg pills per day (24 hr period) safely, but myself I probably would not take more than 2 at one time. If the medication is not working for you I would the doctor and tell him/her that it is not working for you and you need something else that will help you.
